Program Overview
The Enhanced Support for Pre-Nursing Program (ESP Program) was designed with the goal to improve upon the overall passing rate on the Pre-Admission NLN exam and to enhance the success of Bloomfield College students in the nursing program. The purpose of the Pre-NLN entrance exam isto evaluate the academic ability of pre-nursing students in order to help the nursing faculty to identify the most qualified applicants.
The objectives of the program are:
- To get pre-nursing students adequately prepared for the Pre-NLN exam through constant practice on test materials.
- To help pre-nursing students to discover the link between the current courses that they are enrolled in and the Pre-NLN exam.
- To help pre-nursing students overcome test anxiety through mastery of the subject matter.
- To inculcate into the pre-nursing students proper study habits that would serve as a platform for success in the nursing program.
- To improve your vocabulary, not just to score well on the test, but to become a better reader and a more effective communicator.
Structure of the ESP program:
A typical review session runs from 5:00-9:00 pm.Each session consists of instruction on selected topics in math, verbal ability, and the sciences, followed by strategies for answering related questions from the adopted review textbook. Each instructional session is about one and one-quarter hours long. Test-taking strategies, study skills and reading tactics and techniques are also incorporated into the sessions. There are about twelve review sessions per program period. One program runs from November to January and the other one runs from May to June in preparation for the January and July exam respectively. A practice test is given during each review period.
