Goals/Objectives ::


OBJECTIVES:

The aim of this course is to provide you with an introduction to college-level reading and writing skills needed for successful completion of the English 106-107 sequence.  Having completed this course, you should:

    1. Demonstrate such analytical reading skills as the ability to recognize the main idea in short readings; identify the evidence which supports the author's main idea; develop word knowledge.
    2. Demonstrate such critical writing skills as the ability to formulate a clear thesis statement; develop a unified and coherent essay that supports your thesis; maintain technical control in your writing through effective use of grammar, punctuation, clear sentences and appropriate language; improve drafts by rethinking, correcting errors, rewriting; collaborate with and give helpful suggestions to other writers; evaluate your own writing.
